Lisa Whelan's small abstract ink drawings are influenced by her experiences living on
Long Island Maine Island.  The dramatic, ever changing coastal landscape that surrounds
her island studio constantly informs her imagery and influences her work.

Like the islands slow pace, her work is deliberate and meditative and invites the viewer
to slow down and look closely. Her drawings, simple or complex, explore issues of
design and color directly and intuitively. Her images emerge slowly and spontaneously,
each mark shifting and fitting together like a small puzzle of meandering lines and
shapes, repetitively recording random moments in time.  The paper, like a skin,
permanently captures and records every indelible mark.
